I am so sad to announce that today was our last day in the city that never sleeps. You know, before coming to New York I'd always wondered why it had so many nicknames, The Big Apple, Gotham, The Capital of the World. I always thought, what could be so special about a city that it garners so much attention and so many different names? As our trip comes to a close I am in awe for the second time at how I could be so clueless as to not understand the significance of the bright, vibrant city of New York. It is a feeling so indescribable to be in this city that people feel the need to create nicknames just to give the rest of the world an idea of what it's like to experience New York.
Okay, enough deep thinking, New York is not meant to be explained but rather it is meant to be enjoyed and I can assure you that enjoy it we did! This morning we got up and headed to a very cool diner by the name of Ellen's Stardust Diner. It is a cool retro diner in all aspects except for the fact that your waitress may be an off broadway singer singing a Maroon Five song as they bring you your breakfast. Suffice it to say, it was an extremely cool experience!
Once we were through with breakfast we took another walk through central park, got some peanuts :P, and then entered the Central Park Zoo! Our main area of focus? The penguins! Max loves anything to do with penguins, it was so adorable to see him interacting with all of the flightless friends as they bobbed in and out of the water.
What is cuter than a bunch of penguins? The Kate Spade Madison Ave. flagship of course ;) My mom and I dragged the boys into yet another Kate Spade before we headed up the Upper West Side to find some food before the hunger-monsters came back. We ended up at a favourite spot of ours, Zabars! I got a feta and spinach croissant (which was delicious!).
After gobbling down our delicious lunches we started our long walk down to the harbour that houses the Circa Line Boat Tours. Because our last experience walking along the shoreline was so beautiful, we decided to walk along the riverside paths down from the Upper West Side. I can tell you that they were just as beautiful as the ones in the Financial District!
We finished our walk at the harbour and used the last pass in our New York City Pass books to ride the Circa Line Tour and we got some fantastic pictures! Our tour guide was the best and the vistas were breathtaking. It was such a beautiful way to end such a fantastic trip.
But wait! There was still dinner to be had! As tradition dictates we had to go to Grimaldi's Pizza for a slice of true New York pizza before saying farewell to NYC.
I want to thank everyone who has read this Travel With Me series, I so hope you got a little glimpse into my trip with my wonderful family whom I love so very much. And as always, thanks for reading!
