This morning we were up early, ready to make the most of our second-last day :/ We popped into a little coffee shop right beside our hotel and got some delicious baked goods. Once we were fuelled up we hopped on the subway and made the journey to Brooklyn! We arrived in the borough and argued for bit on the best route to the Brooklyn bridge and then made our way there. I love the Brooklyn Bridge! It's such a structurally interesting bridge and the walk across it is a must if you go to NYC if only for the breathtaking views. I would advise going in the morning though, it is a pretty popular tourist destination and those can get very very busy in the afternoon.
The Brooklyn Bridge lets out in the Financial District in Manhattan so we decided to explore for a bit! My dad wanted us to see the New York Stock Exchange so we headed over there for a few pictures. As it was a Sunday the Exchange was not open but the street was empty, it was perfect for taking pictures!
Once we were satisfied with our family photos we walked to the 9/11 Memorial. The solemnness of the memorial lays across every surface and in the hearts of all those that come to pay their respects. While it is by no means a happy place, there is also a peacefulness and a hope that are both as potent as any sadness. Seeing the huge fountains and all the names of the people who died contrasting the hight and grace of Freedom Tower really puts life into perspective.
The next stop on our list was the High Line. The only problem was that it is a fair walking distance from the memorial. Here was our solution: walking down the hudson on all of the brand-new, beautiful pathways! While we were walking we also spotted a park with a jungle-gym Max couldn't pass up ;)
Remember yesterday's post? |
After thoroughly enjoying our Crapes we headed back up to the High Line. By the time we were done walking through the park it was beginning to get dark and we were starting to get a little hungry (again haha). We decided to walk down to Fifth again to check out the Plaza Hotel. I love all of the greenery around the hotel. The shrubbery and fountains make me feel like I'm walking through a fairy garden! Anyway after roaming around the hotel for a bit we decided to go back to our favourite: Joe's Shanghai for another round of soup dumplings mmmm...
Keep an eye out for the last Travel With Me post coming within the next week, and as always, thanks for reading!
